Reaching Those Who Need It Most
Access to laboratory diagnostics should not be determined solely by financial means. As part of our commitment to the communities we serve, DLS periodically organises free health screening initiatives in partnership with community-based organisations and local health stakeholders.
Our most recent community screening event reached residents across several Bulawayo suburbs, offering no-cost testing for blood glucose, haemoglobin, and blood pressure — three of the most clinically meaningful quick-screen measurements for the Zimbabwean population.
What We Found
Among those screened, a significant proportion had not had any form of health check in over two years. Several participants were found to have haemoglobin levels consistent with moderate anaemia, and a number had fasting glucose readings that warranted follow-up for possible diabetes. All such individuals were referred for confirmatory full laboratory testing and advised to seek clinical review.
The Value of Early Identification
Identifying anaemia early allows dietary or supplementation intervention before it becomes debilitating. Catching elevated glucose before frank diabetes develops gives years of prevention time. DLS is committed to continuing these community initiatives as part of our broader mission to support health outcomes in Bulawayo and the surrounding region.
